Have just finalised the short film lineup for our Sat 15th ‘Summer Evening with Cog’. Very happy with the content and the unfolding of the night’s program. There are limited numbers, (35) and have less than 10 spots left. Let’s hope for nice weather….

It’s been a while since anything new has gone up re: custom building. I work in the fab-shop at least one day a week but recently with the new location at Warburton and flitting off to NZ for a week, production has suffered. Check out this though, it has been a work in progress for quite some time but I think you’ll agree it’s not the run-of-the-mill production. 36 inch unicycle all hand built, fillet brazed, hand rolled, etc Made from cro-mo tubing, even has a Columbus seat tube. The wheel (not built by me) has a 2 speed Schlumpf hub. The finish is high polish chrome (by Vinnies in Dandenong) check out our gallery for photos

Riding in New Zealand

Libby and I have just returned from a little riding jaunt in the South Island of New Zealand. We mainly wanted to check out the operation of the Otago Central Rail Trail and some mountainbike riding parks. We had great weather and met some friendly locals. The rail trail is fantastic. We didn’t ride the whole trail, only Naseby to Clyde but got a great deal of enjoyment and info about the 120km or so that we did. If anyone is interested in travelling to NZ to ride the trail, Libby and I would be happy to share our experience and knowledge. We also rode at Wanaka, Naseby and Christchurch. I bumped into some friends who were competing on the Great Southern Brevet event. See some photos on the Cog Bike Cafe facebook page.

Springtime nearly over, always bike season at Cog!

Spring is almost done and the temperatures are rising. People are coming out and riding more often, good on you all, now is a great time to ride your bike. We have some new bikes in stock if you are after a new upgraded ride or if you simply want a new fun machine, we have stock of Jamis, Schwinn and Specialized. BMXs in stock are KINK and FITBIKECO. Some custom builds on the go at the moment are Surly fatbike, Turner Sultan (soon) and some interesting custom frames too. See you for coffee soon.

The Warburton Trail has a new feature, COG2

Yes, 6 years in the making and now up and running. Located about 50m shy of the old Warburton train station site and 1.2m from the trail! We have a menu and chef providing even more culinary treats than the original Mt Evelyn Cog. Our focus still on healthy, mostly organic local produce. Coffee? It’s Supreme by name and nature ( come and taste to confirm ). We also have a large selection of teas, chai and herbals all from Yarra Valley teas. Of course bike services too, including hire, repairs and sales. Come and check out our bicycle book library!

COG2 is open and rolling

It’s been a long time coming, but finally it is a reality! Cog Bike Cafe in Warburton ….on the trail at the foothills of Mt Donna Buang. A stunning location with nice atmosphere to boot. The menu is scrumptious and sources local goodies as best we can. We have lunch choices based on the 3 biggest bike races in the world, TDF, Giro and Vuelta. Hearty breakfasts with a touch of class (macadamia muesli, organic sour dough breads, free range eggs, Otway bacon smoked by the local butcher, buttermilk pancakes, – you get the idea).

Exciting news for the Warburton Trail

Howdy all riders, trail users and/or Cog customers. I attended the AGM for the Friends of the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail a couple of weeks ago. Steven Kaye from Rail Trails Australia was guest speaker and informed us the link to Yarra Glen is all but approved. 13kms of extra rail trail to the lovely destination of Yarra Glen. Very exciting news indeed. The huge potential in benefits for community health and well being will soon be realised. Then of course there is economic benefits in tourism and local business. Now we can work to the bigger plan of connecting Warburton to Healesville to Yarra Glen and make it truly an international destination!
